    What is Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Status scheme

    In the budget year 2023 to 2024, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Shri MK Stalin said that his administration will launch a financial assistance program for the women of the state. Thanks to the recently launched Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme by the Tamil Nadu government, about 10 lakh women of Tamil Nadu will get the benefit of the Universal Basic Income program of the Tamil Nadu state government. Under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai scheme, assistance of Rs 1000 per month will be given, for which the Tamil Nadu government has budgeted Rs 7000 crore.     Eligibility Criteria

    • The applicant for this scheme must be a resident of Tamil Nadu state.
    • The family income of the woman should not exceed the prescribed income.
    • The Kalaignar Magalir Urimai scheme has been implemented for economically weaker women. In this, women of disadvantaged class will get benefits, such as women of ST, SC, and OBC category whose financial condition is weak, they can get its benefit.
    • The age limit has also been fixed for women to avail the benefits of the scheme, which should be the minimum age of 18 years for women.

    Information about Kalaignar magalir urimai scheme

    • The annual income of the family applying under the scheme should be less than Rs 2.5 lakh. The family taking benefit of the scheme should not consume more than 3600 units of electricity per year. People can give this information while applying.
    • The age of the woman taking benefit of this scheme should be at least 21 years. The government has said that women born before 15 September 2002 can apply for this scheme.
    • Family card registration is necessary for this. Anyone who has a family card can apply for the scheme. Only one beneficiary will be paid on one card.
    • The woman who is the head of the family will get Rs 1000 under the scheme. The woman whose name is registered as the head of the family on the family card will get money every month in her account. If the name of a man is mentioned as the head in any card, then his wife will be made the beneficiary.
    • If the name of the wife of the head of the family is not registered in the family card, then any other woman can be made the beneficiary.  
    • If there is an unmarried woman, widow or transgender head in a family, then she will also get the benefit of this scheme. She can also apply under the scheme.
