What is Namo Shetkari Yojana?
The Maharashtra government launched Namo Shetkari Yojana in May 2023. Under this scheme, farmers of Maharashtra will get an additional Rs 2000 every year. This is in addition to the Rs 6000 they are already getting from the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. So, they will get a total of Rs 12000 from both the schemes.
India is heavily dependent on agriculture, so the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana aims to boost the income of farmers. Now, the Maharashtra government adds an additional Rs 6000 annually in three equal parts under the Namo Shetkari Maha Samman Nidhi Yojana for those eligible for the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.
This means that farmers of Maharashtra will now get Rs 12000 transferred directly to their accounts every year. The scheme also provides crop insurance for just Rs 1. The government has planned to spend Rs 6900 crore on this, which will benefit around 1.5 crore farmer families in the state.
